Job Description:

Purpose:

This position prepares content and manages the multiple social media channels belonging to The University of Texas System and will develop and execute a strategy for social communications that focuses on audience growth, engagement, and issues management. The Digital Communications Manager will support the media relations, communications and web teams, and UT System leaders to develop and execute effective messaging in support of the UT System and UT institutions. The Digital Communications Manager will also assist in developing and maintaining content for the UT System website and other digital communications.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and strategic social media strategy that supports and furthers the UT System’s overall communications initiatives.
  • Create and post highly engaging and dynamic content for a variety of digital media and audiences that support the UT System and Texas public higher education. Coordinate promotion of initiatives, news, accomplishments, and timely information to support the outreach of UT institutions and the UT community.
  • Manage UT System social media channels to ensure content is relevant, creative, frequent, and consistent. Proactively schedule postings to optimize exposure and engagement and to ensure steady flow of high-caliber content, achieving key metrics for reach, engagement and shareability.
  • Ensure time-sensitive monitoring of issues and breaking news. When needed, implement timely digital communications to support the messaging of the UT System and engage with followers in a respectful and timely manner.
  • Use analytics from social media platforms and UT System websites to provide reports on exposure, usage, and engagement. Periodically evaluate the effectiveness of each platform and test new technologies, tactics, and platforms for additional traction.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to interact in a collegial and professional manner with staff and System leaders, as well as with the public and UT institution colleagues.
  • Self-directed, with attention to detail and commitment to excellence in all phases of work.
  • Ability to define, collect and analyze social media metrics.
  • Highly experienced in analytics tools such as Hootsuite, Meltwater, Falcon or similar.
Candidate Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field.
  • Five years of communications or public relations experience, including at least three years of experience developing and implementing social media strategies and producing content for a large organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and developing content for social media, including ability to discern and modify tone of posts and appropriate communications tools (i.e., video, infographics, images) per topic and social media channel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to interact in a collegial and professional manner with staff and System leaders, as well as with the public and UT institution colleagues.
  • Self-directed, with attention to detail and commitment to excellence in all phases of work.
  • Ability to define, collect and analyze social media metrics.• Highly experienced in analytics tools such as Hootsuite, Meltwater, Falcon or similar.
  • Availability beyond normal business hours to monitor and moderate social media channels as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing social media accounts for entities with multiple brands and public figures (presidents, vice presidents, sister companies, multiple accounts in official and personal spaces).
  • Additional avenues of writing experience for public figure comments, websites and other online options.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop or similar image editing software.
  • Experience with multimedia software such as Adobe After Effects and/or Final Cut Pro/Apple Motion.
  • Experience with content management systems, and knowledge of site/page metadata and relationship to sharing posts.
  • Experience working with higher education or academic health institutions.
