PR/Communications Account Executive, Clean Energy

Mercom Capital Group is a rapidly growing PR/strategic communications practice specializing in the clean energy sector. Our clients include start-ups and well-known brands who are transforming the way we produce, store, and consume energy.

Job Description:

This role requires someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and can roll with the punches. Our team is also seeking someone who is invigorated by challenges, complex subject matter, and creative thinking. The Account Executive position reports to our Account Manager and will have an opportunity to work with a collaborative team, expand their PR/communications skills, and perform meaningful work with global impact. If you’re looking for an advertising, sales, or marketing position, this is not the role for you. We are only considering candidates with experience in public relations and communications.

Candidate Qualities:

What You’ll Be Doing:

•Support day-to-day account management and serve as a key point of contact for clients, anticipate client needs, and ensure quality control.

•Demonstrate tactical proficiency in media relations, including creating and driving both traditional and social media outreach plans, as well as proactively pitching media outlets on an ongoing basis.

•Consistently produce high-quality, clear, and persuasive content for both internal and external communications.

•Closely monitor industry trends (PR/communications and clean energy) to bring fresh thinking and best practices to clients.

•Contribute to the operational performance of accounts, ensuring quality work, deadline, and budget adherence.

•Generate new story ideas, PR campaigns and media and analyst leads.

•Write and distribute pitch letters, press releases (including financial press releases), articles, CEO conference scripts and talking points, and other press materials.

•Identify and secure speaking roles and awards opportunities for Mercom and its clients.

•Coordinate conference activities for Mercom and its clients.

•Gather customer references and testimonials for further branding efforts.

•Represent Mercom and its clients at events and trade shows.

•Be available after office hours, as needed, to meet deadlines and connect with our international team and clients.

Candidate Qualifications:

Job Requirements

•3-5 years of experience in public relations or communications. (Required)

•At least two years of agency PR experience with multiple accounts and projects. (Preferred)

•At least one year of experience in the technology or energy sector. (Preferred)

•Bachelor's in public relations, communications, journalism, or related field. (Required)

•Candidates must reside in the Austin area and be willing to work from the firm’s office daily. This is not a remote position.

Desired Experience/Skills

•Proactive, goal-oriented individual who takes pride in what they do and in successfully completing their tasks.

•Strong interpersonal skills.

•Strategic thinking skills and the ability to solve problems and overcome obstacles.

•Excellent writing and copywriting skills across multiple channels (press releases, pitches, website, social media posts, blogs, technical articles and white papers, key messages and scripts, presentations, etc.).

•Knowledge of AP Style.

•Ability to proofread and deliver assignments free of spelling and grammar errors.

•Excellent communications and presentation skills•Strong leadership and a high degree of independence while still functioning within a team-oriented environment.

•Experience working directly with energy and environmental journalists, from top-tier outlets to trades, and be well versed in the top energy and environmental stories in the news a plus.

•Tactical proficiency in media relations, including creating and driving both traditional and social media outreach plans, as well as proactively pitching media outlets on an ongoing basis.

•Ability to maintain and develop key media contacts.

•Must be able to grasp technical concepts and translate them to written pieces, such as articles, press releases, blogs, social media posts, and more.

•Experience working with desktop publishing and media databases a plus.

•Ability to prioritize and work under pressure.
