Purpose of Position

The Assistant Director of Digital Communications will be responsible for preparing content and managing the multiple social media channels belonging to The University of Texas System and will develop and execute a strategy for social communications that focuses on informing and engaging audiences. The assistant director will work as part of the communications, media relations, and digital team, and will develop and execute effective messaging in support of UT institutions and the UT System.

Essential Functions

• Develop and execute a strategy for social communications that focuses on informing, engaging, and increasing audiences that support the UT System and Texas public higher education.

• Create and post highly engaging and dynamic social content and coordinate promotion of initiatives, news, accomplishments, and timely information to support the outreach of UT institutions and the UT community.• Use analytics from social media platforms and UT System websites to evaluate the effectiveness of each platform and stay up to date on new technologies, tactics, and platforms for additional traction.

• Assist in preparing and distributing the daily media report, a compilation of news about UT institutions and higher education.

• Produce and distribute compelling written materials for a variety of media, including news releases, statements, video scripts, correspondence, and presentations.

• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills.

• Demonstrated expertise in creating strategic and effective messaging for a variety of audiences.• Exercises sound and professional judgment.

• Self-directed, with attention to detail and commitment to excellence in all phases of work.

• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and manage complex tasks, and work independently and on a team.

• Ability to define, collect and analyze social media metrics.

• Experience in analytics tools such as Hootsuite, Meltwater, Falcon or similar.

Candidate Qualifications:

 Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.

• Five years of communications or public relations experience, including at least five years of experience developing and implementing social media strategies and producing content for a large organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing social media accounts for entities with multiple brands and public figures (presidents, vice presidents, sister companies, multiple accounts in official and personal spaces).

• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop or similar image editing software.

• Experience with multimedia software such as Adobe After Effects and/or Final Cut Pro/Apple Motion.

• Experience with content management systems, and knowledge of site/page metadata and relationship to sharing posts.• Experience working with higher education or academic health institutions.

Working Conditions

• Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

• Uses standard office equipment

• Requires occasional evening or weekend hours

• Requires in-person presence in office, although some remote work options are available

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
