Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Performs advanced (senior-level) informational and educational work. 
  • Work involves coordinating and overseeing the research, writing, editing, and production of materials for social media platforms, for release to news media and for use by the agency, the public, and other agencies. 
  • Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

This position reports to the Media Relations Director.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with Media Relations Director and team to expand reach and engagement across TLC social media platforms through the design and execution of a social media strategy.
  • Conceptualize, design, and create daily social media content across platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Collaborate with Media Relations team to research, generate, edit, publish, and share daily social media content across all platforms.
  • Produce high-quality visual content with minimal assistance, including short videos, still graphics and motion graphics, for all social media platforms.
  • Oversee and conduct social media contests and manage prize fulfillment.
  • Develop, lead, and measure success of social media campaigns.
  • Develop, coordinate, maintain, and implement social media calendar to ensure timely content review and distribution.
  • Use Hootsuite or similar social media management tools to schedule content, maximize audience reach, and enhance content marketing.
  • Maintain and update the TLC’s social media guidelines for all platforms.
  • Analyze and react to all social media platform statistics and analytics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to continuously grow social media presence.
  • Create and distribute social media statistical reports.
  • Evaluate social media analytics and technologies and make recommendations for new approaches or strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Lottery Operations Division to identify marketing and promotional opportunities that creatively highlight lottery products on TLC social media platforms.
  • Consult with agency contacts to develop social media content, employee communications, and media materials.Monitor social media channels for trend identification.
  • Research emerging trends and identify tools and services available through vendors to maximize social media engagement and reach.Moderate and respond to user comments and messages.
  • Manage vendor contracts as needed.Perform related work as assigned.

Candidate Qualities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Associated Press Style.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and previous experience using them to promote work in a professional setting.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics, legal guidelines, and best practices.
  • Possess strong understanding and knowledge of social media key performance indicators.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to research and prepare information, to design communication plans related to the goals and priorities of the agency, and to create social media content and other communications materials.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and in a deadline-driven work environment.
  • Ability to maintain a pleasant and professional work attitude at all times.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, and others.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time and operate a personal computer, standard office equipment, and computer software.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Candidate Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Relations, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, or a related field is required.
  • Three years of experience in a communications-related role is required. (Completion of 15 semester hours of graduate school coursework may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of two years.)
  • One year of proven experience writing copy and creating content for social media on behalf of an employer is required. (Three years of experience is strongly preferred.)
  • Experience with engaging and growing audiences via social media on behalf of an employer is required.
  • Experience creating and posting social media content in a variety of resolutions and formats for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube is required. (A demonstrated understanding of social media platforms and how to effectively and strategically use each platform is required.)
  • Experience developing original content and sharing existing news-related content for social media platforms is required.
  • Experience using smartphones for photography and video is required.
  • Experience using Apple iOS devices for content creation and distribution of social media assets and projects is preferred.
  • DSLR experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook is required.
  • Experience streaming live video content to social media platforms in vertical and horizontal formats is preferred.
  • Audio production/podcasting experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with advertised content (boosted, promoted, sponsored posts) is preferred.
  • Experience conducting contests via social media is preferred.
  • Experience with running social media campaigns is preferred.
  • Experience working with Hootsuite or other social media management tools is preferred.
  • Experience and proficiency in graphic design using the Adobe Creative Cloud, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Spark, is preferred.
  • Experience in video production using the video editing software applications. Adobe Premiere Pro and/or Apple Final Cut Pro is preferred.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as workload may require and be available for 24 hour on-call rotation schedule.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% for job-related purposes as required.
