2019 PRSA Austin Chapter Election Information

Interested in making a difference in your profession and professional development? The PRSA Austin Chapter is currently seeking energetic and creative professionals to serve on the 2019 Board of Directors and Committees. The more volunteers we have on our Board the more successful our year will be.

If you are interested in a board position or know someone who would make a good addition to PRSA Austin Chapter’s leadership, review the information below and submit your application by August 17, 2018. Self-nominations are accepted (encouraged). Please note, some positions are more than 1 year.

Once we have reviewed the nominees, the 2018 PRSA Austin Chapter officers (Nominations Committee) will contact the selected nominees prior to the November annual meeting. Per the PRSA Austin Chapter bylaws, the Executive Board will be presented as a slate to Chapter members for official voting.
Committee chairs and members are appointed by the chapter officers and are not subject to approval by vote. Committee chairs and members will be notified of selection by October 2018.

PRSA Austin Chapter Board Organization

Board of Directors

  • The Board of Directors serves as the governing body and consists of the president, the vice president/president-elect, secretary, treasurer, the immediate past president, the assembly delegate(s), three directors-at-large, and an ethics director.


  • One director-at-large shall be elected each year by the Chapter membership at its Annual Meeting to serve a term of two years beginning January 1 and until his/her successor is elected and assumes office.

Assembly Delegates (3)

  • Assembly Delegates are members who serve as the Chapter's representatives at the meetings of the PRSA Assembly and District. They shall be elected by the Chapter membership for a one to three-year term. Our Chapter will put Accredited members as a priority. The current President and President-Elect serve as two of the three delegates. One open position is always available for another member or Director. 

Ethics Director

  • The ethics director shall provide ethics education and consultation to local board and chapter members and shall be elected by the Chapter membership


  • The Board also consists of three committees led by committee chairs and supporting members: programs committee, marketing committee and sponsorship, and we recently added a Diversity & Inclusion committee.

In addition to Board of Directors’ positions, we are also looking for volunteers to serve on our various committees. Volunteers are what make our Chapter successful. Please let us know if you are interested in serving as a committee member!

  • Applicants for Board of Director positions must be PRSA Austin Chapter members in good standing.
  • Applicants must have two or more years of professional experience.


  • Know the organization’s mission, purposes, goals, policies, programs, services, strengths and needs.
  • Perform duties of board membership responsibly and at a level of competence expected from board members.
  • Serve in a leadership position and undertake special assignments willingly and in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a liaison for any assigned committee(s) or a task force, reporting to the board regularly through written and oral communication. 
  • Call to the attention of the chapter’s president and/or its chief operating officer issues of potential significance to the chapter.
  • Serve as a chapter ambassador for members and potential members.

Time commitment

Members of the board can expect the following time commitments:

  • Participate in-person or by phone in monthly board meetings (approx. 1 hour long)
  • Attend PRSA Austin Chapter events and actively encourage support and attendance by colleagues
  • Assist in planning events, including researching and soliciting speakers, venues, etc., guided by the Vice President of Programs and Program Chair.
  • Participate in committee meetings outside of monthly board meetings, as appropriate, to be determined by the committee chair.
