PRSA Austin Chapter Seeks Diversity Chair

Interested in making a difference in your profession and professional development? The PRSA Austin Chapter is currently seeking an energetic and creative professional to serve on the 2018 Board as Diversity & Inclusion Chair.  

In addition to serving on the PRSA Austin Chapter Board, this position serves as a liaison to PRSA National’s D&I Committee and participates in quarterly calls with other chapters. Also, PRSA’s International Conference will be held in Austin in October 2018, so there are even more opportunities to get involved this year and work with National’s D&I Committee members.

Diversity Chair Description

Many studies indicate that the industry still struggles to attract young black, Asian and Hispanic professionals to pursue public relations as their career of choice. The Austin PRSA Diversity & Inclusion Chair shall be committed to building consciousness by increasing visibility of D&I standards, resources and best practices for racial, ethnic, religious, sexual orientation and gender differences, as well as diverse skill sets, mindsets and cultures at all levels of the organization.

The D&I Chair position for the Austin Chapter is new, but we seek someone who is passionate about growing this role and helping our Chapter be more inclusive in all we do. For more information about Board position descriptions and responsibilities, go here.

Qualifications 

  • Applicants for executive board positions must be PRSA Austin Chapter members in good standing.
  • Applicants must have two or more years of professional experience in the field of public relations or communications.

 Specific Responsibilities to Strive for in 2018

  • Develop an official position and goal for the Chapter and make public. This would be a collaboration with the President-Elect and the Board.
  • Create a mentorship program with students in high school looking to learn more about the PR industry.
  • Participate in D&I Month and Twitter Chats when asked by National.
  • Promote Diversity and Inclusion for the Chapter and for all programs.
